New Year's Resolutions

2010 is finally here!! I'm so excited for this year because I am finally graduating high school and moving onto college in the fall. Well, as at the start of every New Year, everyone has resolutions, and I do too.
I have this blog....and in the past year and a half that I've had it, I have rarely used it. My resolution this year is to actually do what I have intended to do with this blog: use it to review all the books that I read. My goal is to review at least one new book a week, plus highlight certain upcoming releases and authors. I have a list of books already all planned to review and exciting upcoming releases for January.
My goal is to use this blog as frequently as I can, and actually do it this year, unlike last year. I will set aside time each week to review any of the book I have read that week.
Hopefully, I will be able to stick to my resolution and not break it this year. I hope that there will be 52 entries, if not more, by 2011, and hopefully, I will have people following my blog.
My first entry for the New Year (besides this one) will be reviewing 2009 and choosing my favorite books from it, which might be difficult considering I can't make up my mind yet. I hope that I can stick to this resolution unlike all others.

Books Into Movies

I've been reading a lot of message board posts and blogs about books becoming movies. A lot of them are saying some books are becoming movies when they aren't. The Mortal Instruments, for one, isn't becoming a movie yet. The rights for that book haven't even been sold to a studio who could make it into a movie.

I don't think many people understand what it takes for a book to be made into a movie. First the rights to the book must be brought by a studio who is interested in possibly making the book into a movie or television sometime. If a studio buys the rights, they have a certain amount of time in which they can move forward and make the book into a film/television show. However, just because the rights have been brought and the book has be optioned to become a film does not nesscarily mean it will become one. It just means that the studio can either invest money to make it a film and begin work on possibly making into a film, by hiring screenwriters and producers and such. However, many books whose rights have been sold and optioned to become a film never make it past just that and never make it to screen. Many studios decide they won't make the book into a film/television show because it's to expensive or other reason and the rights will expire. For example, A Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray was optioned to become a film, but it's not going to be a movie anytime soon. Libba sold the rights to a studio about 4 years ago and talked to producers and film makers, but when the rights expired for the second time this year the movie wasn't going to happen.

To read more about making films into movies here's two good blog posts from Scott Westerfeld and Libba Bray.

Everyone keeps saying Uglies is becoming a film, it may but at the moment it's only been optioned by a studio. Mortal Instruments hasn't even had it's right sold. Cassie has answered this question many times and you can read more about it here in here FAQ.

Wondrous Strange

Last night I finished rereading Wondrous Strange by Lesley Livingston for like the tenth time. I love this book. Yesterday, while on Harperteen.com I saw that she posted the cover for the next book, Darklight, on her blog. The cover is beautiful. I can't wait to read the next book, espically after I've seen the gorgeous cover. I can't wait to see what happens next with Sonny and Kelley. If you haven't read Wondrous Strange I recommend you go read it now, it's wonderful debut novel.

Wondrous Strange is a great novel for people who enjoy reading fantasy and paranormal novels. It's a great novel of faeries.

Here is a summary from School Library Journal: When Kelley moves to New York to pursue her dreams of theatrical success, she expects that her only encounters with mythical beings will be confined to the stage, in the Avalon Grande Theatre's production of A Midsummer Night's Dream. All of that changes when she meets Sonny Flannery, who introduces Kelley to a world she never knew existed. A member of Auberon's Janus Guard, he patrols the portal (in Central Park) between the human and faerie worlds on the few dangerous nights when it opens and members of the Unseelie Court can pass into the mortal realm. He is strangely drawn to Kelley, and as he gets to know her, he begins to suspect that there is more to her history than either of them know. Through encounters with sirens, hellhounds, and kelpies, Kelley and Sonny are drawn irrevocably into a battle among the Fey. Despite the budding attraction between them, forces they can hardly understand seek to keep them apart. Set against the backdrop of present-day New York City, this enchanting first novel weaves together the worlds of theater and magic in a way that is sure to please fans of both. Readers will revel in the hints of Shakespeare within the text as they are introduced to faerie creatures both familiar and "wondrous strange."
Fans of Twilight, Melissa Marr's Wicked Lovely will love and enjoy this novel very much. I can't wait to read more from Lesley Livingston.

Jonas Brothers and Books

Wow. It's been along time since i've posted on this. It's been crazy. I had to finish up my junior year of high school which kept me busy most of the time, and then the summer came along and I've been working like crazy. Where has all my free time gone?!?! Luckily for me, I was able to have some free time last week and got to go see the Jonas Brothers at the Izod center on July 14.

My sister got tickets the first day they were released and we were right next to the stage by the catwalk. We could literally touch the jonas brothers if not for security. I'm not a big fan of the jonas brothers, in fact i didn't really know many of their songs until my sister gave me their setlist which i learned the day before the concert, but suprisingly the concert was really good and i had a good time. One things for sure, the Jonas Brothers do know how to give a good show. By the time the jonas brothers came on after their opening acts i was screaming like a fangirl and singing along with everyone else. It was such a good show and I loved our seats because we were sooo close.

Here's Kevin right in front of us on the stage. He was always on our side of the stage which was awesome. We also saw his fiance danielle at the concert too. Are seats were amazing and I'm so glad my sister got them. People would die to have our spots.

Nick and Kevin were by us the most. Joe only came on our side once or twice but he ran around the entire stage a bunch. I really really liked the concert shockingly. My favorite part was....

when we got foamed!! During Live to Party Joe and Kevin go above the audience a spray foam at the crowd. It was awesome we got foamed a couple times since we were right next to the stage. Overall it was a very good night, except for the ride how which took 2 hours when it should take 30 mins thanks to a road being closed.
